Like many retriever activists, Dr. Greenleaf grew up in a bird dog environment. He acquired his first Lab, Woodcroft Suntan, while a resident at Bellevue Hospital in New York. His first field trial dog, acquired in 1960, was Handy Andy of Sparkle Plenty, who won some ribbons in picnic trials and Dick was off to a lifelong interest. Although he grew up and went to school in the East, he chose Seattle as the locale for his medical practice.
He has been active in both National Clubs, and in fact is a past President of both National Clubs. He is a nationally recognized judge, having judged both Nationals. He was Vice President of the Labrador Retriever Club.
Dick has been blessed with four field champions - FC-AFC Black Canyon Beauregard; FC-AFC-CFC Ivy Pat; FC Alaskans Fall Blizzard; and FC-AFC-CFC Seatacs Keeman. He has competed in 18 National trials and generally handled his own dogs.
Dick was elected Vice President and Director of RFTN in 1970 and has served as a Director for many years.
