Brownie was a first lady of Retriever field trials.
Brownie and Bing participated in trials from Alaska to Florida and Maine to California. She made friends and gathered admirers wherever she went. She was a perennial member of the Hostess Committee at the National Open Stake. She acted as its chairperson for many, many years. Her friendships were nationwide.
Brownie was a serious person. She had a deep sense of values. She accepted many civic and social responsibilities. She performed them with thoroughness and competence. At the same time Brownie loved parties. She loved to attend them. She loved to give them. Hers were imaginative and the more sumptuous they were the more she enjoyed them. Her hospitality was legend.
Brownie's warmth and her friendliness with everyone she encountered were genuine. Her devotion to Bing was remarkable. He was her beloved. She watched over him. His wishes and his welfare were her first concerns. His devotion to field trialing became her devotion. At one time she was a successful handler of their National Champion Butte's Blue Moon but she decided to avoid any possible competition with Bing and discontinued participation in trials as a contestant.
Is it impossible to remember Brownie without at the same time remembering Bing. Both were members of the Retriever Hall of Fame. In all of their activities they were never Bing and Brownie. They are together once more.
The many of us who knew them, admired them, loved them and enjoyed their company will cherish their memories.
